CRITICAL LITERACY
REFLECTION UNIT 2

1- In unit 2, we have do the portfolio task ‘Battling the bullies’ and learn about languages, perspective, ideology, text and textualities. The most interesting information in this unit is about text and textualities. It is because, we can learn about a society and meaning of one text in the society. For example the Dunhill advert. From this we can uncover the attitudes and think about their effect.

2- There is some difficult things in this unit. For example some word and terminology is quite difficult to understand. For example, paradigmatic, syntagmatic and semiotic. It is also difficult to understand about cultural myths. It also difficult to understand about textual analysis and textual production. In reading 2.2, it is difficult to understand how notions are connected to the choices made by the writer.

3- At the first time when reading ‘Battling the bullies’, I feel that the article is very interesting. It is a good article because the writer try to expose the bullies issue in front of the public. The issue that most of the public thinks that it is unimportant and just a small issue. Most of them do not realize that it is one of the dangerous issue, which can cause a very dangerous condition and traumatic to the victims.
At the second time while read the article, I realize that the writer have their own purpose to share this issue with the reader and I also find out that the article is not just for public but it has been specified to the group of people which are parents and teacher. I am also find out about the writer perspectives, positioning, visual literacy and many more.
Generally, there is not have much different between the two reading. However the second reading make me more understand about the article and the writer stance.

4- COMMENT ON PRESENTATION

After listening for the presentation from my classmate, Fatihah, Dalila, and Zalikha. I have understand about language, perspective and ideology even though for just a little bit. However for the ‘Text and textualities’ become easy to understand. During the presentation, they state the meaning of myths. Myths is a set of signs which implies extremely familiar and influential social structure thinking. The also give the meaning of some difficult terminology such as signifier, signified, paradigmatic, syntacmatic and others.
