CRITICAL LITERACY

REFLECTION UNIT 3

1.The information that I found interesting in this unit is we learnt more about positioning. By learning this unit we know how the writer construct the participants in the text and how is the reader constructed? In this unit I also found that it helps to develop the ability to recognize and identify elements of positioning.

2.There are some concepts and terminology that is difficult to understand in this topic. It is quite difficult for me to know the way to construct the participant in the text and the way that the reader is constructed. It is also difficult to understand the terminology in reading 3.4, which are the term discourse, constructs, ideal reader and reading positions.

3. The article Truth about Youth is very interesting. I found that it is easy to find out all of the elements needed to do the portfolio task for this article. However, I quite confusing in the perspective and positioning part. It is because in the perspective part we must recognize that the article is to comment or condemn. In the positioning part we must know the way to construct the reader and the way the writer construct the participant. In this article I tried to read with the purpose to understand more about the article and focuses on the positioning part rather than reading in unit 1 and unit 2. Overall I found that all of the elements needed to make a portfolio which are topic, content, source, audience, the rhetorical function, purpose, perspectives, positioning, impact and visual literacy is easily to find whether there are some elements that’s are quite confusing.

4. After listen for the presentation from Thuraya, Yusafiza and Qursyia it helps me to understand more about this topic. They elaborate a little bit about positioning, which is the stance of the reader about the subject. The nation of positioning follows logically from the writer’s perspective. They also described the way participant constructed which is seems not to support and describe negatively. Construct the reader; the reader will easily have an effects when read the headline and see the picture of the article.
